Click this link for the Application Form (pdf) and Contact Form (rtf) for the ORCA Incident Management Teams. There is a system wide shortage of applications for Type 2 teams so we request that you give ORCA Team membership serious consideration. If you are interested please complete the forms, obtain the required signatures and return to your local area dispatch center by February 10th 2006.

IF YOU WERE ON A TEAM LAST YEAR, JUST FILL IN THE TOP PORTION OF THE APPLICATION FORM, NAME AND THE POSITION TO BE CONSIDERED, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE APPROPRIATE SIGNATURES, AND COMPLETE THE CONTACT FORM. THIS YEAR THE APPLICATION WILL COVER 2006 AND 2007 SEASON.

The ORCA team is an interagency team made up of members from the Oregon Department of Forestry, Klamath/Lake and Southwest Oregon Districts; Coos and Douglas Forest Protective Associations; California Department of Forestry, Siskiyou Ranger Unit; Coos Bay, Lakeview, Medford and Roseburg Districts of the Bureau of Land Management; Crater Lake National Park and Lava Beds National Monument of the National Park Service; Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge; and the Fremont/Winema, Klamath, Modoc, Rogue River/Siskiyou, and Umpqua National Forests. These teams are meant to function in Southern Oregon and Northern California, but may go outside the area as needed, including Alaska. Each year these teams accept a limited number of apprentices. The purpose is to expose interested people to the fire suppression overhead organization so they may decide if this is a career option they want to follow. Apprentices will be selected from those employees with little or no experience in incident management and who are in positions that don't normally provide exposure to the incident management organization. Apprentices should apply to functional areas (i.e. Operations, Logistics, Planning or Finance) instead of a particular position. Apprentices will be assigned to, and dispatched with, a team.

Trainee positions are for employees who need training assignments to be fully qualified. Four (4) trainees will be assigned to each team and will interact as a member of that team. Each team will also have four (4) "floater" positions that will be filled during mobilization from a pool of priority trainee placements. Trainees will be dispatched with a team until they have obtained the qualifying experience.

It is expected that ORCA area trainees commit for a minimum of two years once they have been “certified” for their position. The commitment could include being part of the alternate pool. The local line officers support this concept. In an attempt to build a stronger pool of alternates, we would like to encourage qualified individuals that may not want to be tied to a team to apply as "Alternate Only". This will increase your opportunity for assignments, plus increase the viability of the ORCA teams. Your application must have the signature of your immediate supervisor and line officer. This signifies a commitment that you are available for team assignments. Also enclosed is a listing of team positions to be filled, the application process timeline, and special instructions if applying to be an Incident Commander. If you have any questions, please contact your local dispatch office or the Lakeview Interagency Fire Center (phone 541-947-6315).
